Sour, spicy, and refreshing; the Michelada is the natural evolution of the Mexican style of dressed beers. Like most things in Mexican cuisine, is typified by the addition of adding salt & lime. The Michelada simply adds some chili as well. This recipe features Bravado Spice Crimson Hot Sauce and is delicious!
There's not that much to this recipe, but there are a few important notes. Just like a margarita, you can rim your glass with salt. Be sure to use coarse sea salt or Kosher salt as regular table salt is too fine and too salty. As a note, Himalayan sea salt is also too salty for this type of application. We have a circular sponge that we use specifically for moistening the rims of glasses, but you can pour a little water into a sauce if that's all you have and then use a separate plate for the salt. You can even add Bravado Spice Crimson Seasoning to your rimming salt for even more flavor. We also realize that some folks prefer their Micheladas without ice, and that's a perfect way to drink them as well; just make sure your beer is super chilled.
Bravado Spice Crimson Hot Sauce is the perfect option to add spiciness to your Michelada. We found that about 1/2 oz is a great place to start, but you can always add more if you want something a bit spicier. The Arbol chilis give a wonderful earthiness to the drink, and the garlic works well with the spices and brininess of the Clamato. You can use whatever Mexican lager you like so long as it's relatively light. Pacifico, Bohemia, Modelo, Carta Blanca, Tecate, & Dos Equis are all great options. We've really enjoyed making these Micheladas and sipping them with friends, and we're sure you will too. Enjoy!
